I identified my first robotic head in 2007 via Charmed Labs, a NASA spinoff, a collaboration with Randy Sargent at Ames Research Center and Illah Nourbakhsh at Carnegie Mellon University. I approached a Bill Diehls who was looking for photographers, world wide, to assist in their beta programme to kickstart their commercial product range and hosting site "GigaPan."
A view out across the Dee estuary in 2008 with a prototype GigaPan head mounted on a cheap tripod and a Canon G10, 14 MP compact camera. This little combo accompanied me across the UK, France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece over the next two years. Cooking, skiing, travelling and finally setting up a little bistro in Skiathos Town above the harbour next to a church where Mamma Mia was filmed and also when it was filmed. So for the sharp eyed amongst you I was the pair of trousers camera left of Pierce Brosnan in the opening first 5 minutes. Fame! |
